Autumn International Tests – Disciplinary updates

The IRB have cited two players after the first weekend of Autumn International Tests.

Rob Simmons of Australia luckily avoided being sent off after a crunching late ‘tip’ tackle on France’s Yannick Nyanga. Simmons caught a break because none of the match officials saw the number of the offending player so he couldn’t be sent off.

On Sunday, Adam Thomson of New Zealand All Blacks was binned for ‘stamping or trampling’ Alasdair Strokosh of Scotland. A ban for Thomson could in theory end his All Blacks career on a downer; he’s widely expected to move to Japan and a ban resulting from this incident would most likely rule him out of the rest of these Autumn tests.

We all send out Love to Jonah Lomu

New is coming through that New Zealand All Blacks legend and all round top bloke, Jonah Lomu, has been admitted to Auckland City hospital after a health scare relating to his kidneys. Early reports are saying that he is in a stable condition. There isn’t much news as his family have requested privacy while he is treated.

Lomu was diagnosed with the kidney disorder nephrotic syndrome in 1995. He received a donor kidney in 2004.

The All Blacks at the RWC have gathered to send a message to Lomu this morning; “Kia Kaha”, or stay strong. We all share this message to Jonah and wish him a speedy recovery.

New Zealand All Blacks – launch vid for the new All Blacks shirt

Another video, this time from adidas for the launch of the New Zealand All Blacks shirt.

What do you think? I really like it – takes a different approach to a lot of rugby promo; avoids the clichés of hard hitting, in-your-face stuff you often get with rugby ads. Not that I’m saying there’s anything wrong with some big hits!! This is just a bit of a change. Let me know what you think.

All Blacks vs South Africa – the game in photos

Saturday 30 August saw the New Zealand All Blacks take on South Africa in the 2011 Tri-Nations. The game was a strong display from the All Blacks, beating South Africa 40-7.

The game was also notable as the unveiling of the new All Blacks rugby shirts. The new shirt has been a very closely guarded secret with only a few key adidas people getting access.

Developed over two years in conjunction with key senior players, including captain Richie McCaw, the shirt features significant changes in terms of construction and technology. although the most obvious change is the white collar [paying tribute to the All Blacks legacy], the shirt has been rebuilt from scratch using new fabrics and technologies.
